3 Types of Welding Technology for Stainless Steel Welded Pipes

At present, the welding methods of stainless steel welded pipes used in industry mainly include argon arc welding, high frequency welding, plasma welding and laser welding. Several welding methods have their own characteristics, and the most used ones are argon arc welding and high frequency welding. (1) Stainless steel welded pipe technology - argon arc welding.


Stainless steel welded pipe requires deep penetration welding, no oxide inclusions, heat affected zone as small as possible, TIG welding with tungsten inert gas protection has good adaptability, high welding quality and good penetration performance. Its products are in chemical industry. Widely used in industries such as nuclear industry and food.


The welding speed is not high, which is the inadequacy of argon arc welding. In order to improve the welding speed, the argon arc welding of the three-electrode welding torch is generally adopted. The wall thickness of the welded steel pipe is S≥2mm, and the welding speed is 3-4 times higher than that of the single welding torch. Quality has also improved. The combination of argon arc welding and plasma welding can weld steel pipes with larger wall thickness. In addition, 5-10% hydrogen in argon and high frequency pulse welding power supply can also increase the welding speed. At present, argon arc welding is the most mature and stable welding process in the field of stainless steel welded pipes. (2) Stainless steel welded pipe technology - high frequency welding


Frequency welding has higher power supply, and it can achieve higher welding speed for steel pipes with different materials and outer wall thickness. Compared with argon arc welding, it is more than 10 times its maximum welding speed. Therefore, the production of a general-purpose stainless steel pipe has a high productivity.


Because of the high frequency welding speed, it is difficult to remove the burrs in the welded pipe. At present, high-frequency welding of stainless steel pipes is still not accepted by the chemical industry and the nuclear industry, which is one of the reasons. From the perspective of welding materials, high-frequency welding can weld various types of austenitic stainless steel tubes. At the same time, the development of new steel grades and advances in forming and welding methods have also successfully welded steel grades such as ferritic stainless steel AISI409.


(3) Stainless steel welded pipe process technology - combined welding technology


Combined welding methods include: argon arc welding plus plasma welding, high frequency welding plus plasma welding, high frequency preheating plus three torch argon arc welding, high frequency preheating plus plasma plus argon arc welding. Combined welding increases the welding speed very significantly. For the welded welded steel pipe with high frequency preheating, the weld quality is equivalent to the conventional argon arc welding and plasma welding. The welding operation is simple, and the whole welding system is easy to realize automation. This combination is easy to connect with the existing high frequency welding equipment, and investment Low cost and good efficiency.


Various welding methods for stainless steel welded pipes have their own advantages and disadvantages.
