The bio-science experiment carried out on the 4th is organized by the Joint Research Center for Deep Space Exploration of the Ministry of Education, and the science-loaded “Moon Micro-Ecosphere” led by Chongqing University. Before the astronauts actually boarded the moon, they explored various agricultural productions on the surface of the moon, which also reflected the characteristics of China's "agricultural country."

“Moon Micro Ecosphere” is a cylindrical “can” made of special aluminum alloy material, 18 cm high and 16 cm in diameter, with a net volume of about 0.8 liter and a total weight of 3 kg. Although the jar is not large, the interior can contain the "whole world."

The bioscience test conducted on the moon selected six organisms, cotton, rapeseed, potato, Arabidopsis, yeast and fruit fly, as samples, and brought their seeds and eggs to the moon for cultivation. The latest pictures show that the cotton shoots grow well. This is the first plant shoot that grows on the moon after experiencing severe environmental tests such as low gravity, strong radiation and high temperature difference on the moon. So how does this biosphere work? At the stage before launch to the lunar month, the temperature control equipment will control the internal load to a lower temperature, and the soil will remain dry, so that the plant seeds and eggs are dormant.

During the growth of plants, the sunlight that is transmitted into the interior of the load will function to promote photosynthesis. The oxygen produced by photosynthesis can be used to supply the respiratory processes of plants, animals and microorganisms. The dead leaves and leaves produced in the growth of plants can be decomposed by microorganisms. Microorganisms and their metabolites can also be a source of food for babies after birth. In this process, microbes and babies (and growing fruit flies) also continuously release carbon dioxide through respiration, which in turn provides the raw materials for plant photosynthesis. The development of animals, plants and microorganisms constitutes a tiny closed-loop system.

Throughout the experimental procedure, the surveillance camera in the payload will continuously send photos back to the Earth, which is the first time humans have observed the growth of the Earth's crops on another planet in real time.

It is understood that the screening of biological species in this popular science experiment has very strict requirements. Due to the limited size of the load, the animals and plants inside are required to occupy too much space. Therefore, the first condition is "small size." At the same time, it must be able to adapt to the extreme conditions of the lunar surface, requiring animals and plants to withstand high temperatures, freeze resistance, and to resist radiation and anti-interference. Subsequently, the plant buds that have been successfully cultivated will continue to grow and are expected to become the first green leaves on the moon.
